Join us for this fascinating tour of Cary Grant’s Bristol. Born Archibald Leach in Bristol in 1904, Cary Grant went on to become one of Hollywood’s most debonair stars. Whilst many Bristolians are aware that he grew up here, not everyone realises his enduring relationship with the city. This walking tour retraces Archie’s hometown haunts and uncovers Bristol’s hidden cinema history in the places where it actually happened. Participants will be led on a guided tour of Bristol City Centre featuring the locations that inspired Archie’s journey from Horfield to Hollywood, and the spots where the Bristol Post photographed him on his many visits home, after he’d reinvented himself as Cary Grant.
Meet in the foyer of The Royal Marriott Hotel at 3.15 – the walk will start promptly at 3.30pm – this gentle walk is wheelchair accessible (but not suitable for electric scooters), with no big climbs, and includes a brief trip on the cross-harbour ferry, ending back at the Marriott with tea/coffee and cookies. Your knowledgable guide will shine a new light on Bristol places closely associated with the boy and man, ends 5pm approx.
It will carry on come rain or shine, so please bring what footwear and clothing you need to make the tour comfortable!
*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WALK WILL NOT END IN TIME FOR YOU TO GET TO THE “Cary Grant in Bristol” AFTERNOON TEA AT AVON GORGE.
