FROM HORFIELD TO HOLLYWOOD

A panel of experts chaired by the effervescent Laura Rawlings (BBC Radio Bristol BreakfastShow). Kathrina Glitre and Andrew Spicer explore Cary Grant’s journey from Horfield to Hollywood, interspersed with extracts from Cary Comes Home (Stuart Napier, 2004)– a documentary celebrating Cary Grant’s Bristol roots.

Join us for an expert talk from Mark Glancy, in conversation with international broadcaster and presenter Matthew Sweet. Glancy, who is writing a book on Grant and has been trawling the Cary Grant Archive, asks: “How did Archibald Leach become Cary Grant?” reflecting on  Archie’s amazing journey from Bristol Boyhood to becoming one of Hollywood’s greatest and most enduring icons, Cary Grant.

WALK AND TALK LIKE CARY GRANT

Walk and Talk like Cary Grant with a Debonair Afternoon Tea at the Clifton hotel where Grant used to stay when visiting his mother.  Be photographed at the spot on the Terrace overlooking the Clifton Suspension Bridge, where he was famously pictured by Bristol Evening Post. And join acting tutors from internationally renowned Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in a masterclass on how to walk and talk like Cary Grant.

CARY GRANT COCKTAIL PARTY

Cary Grant cocktail in North by NorthwestSaturday 11th October, 8pm until late

Celebrate Cary Grant’s Bristol in style in the exclusive upstairs bar at Renato’s – the traditional post-theatre haunt of the actors – with vintage music, memories and Cary Grant inspired drinks, such as The Cary Grant (named after him), The Gibson (as featured in North by North West) and Pink Champagne Cocktail (An Affair to Remember).

CITY SIGHTSEEING BRISTOL

susBridge3Our friends at City Sightseeing Bristol are featuring Cary Grant in their open-top bus tours of Bristol from Thursday 9th – Sunday 12 October inclusive. Sit back and explore the city of Archie’s birth – from the floating harbour that inspired him to travel, to the theatre where it all started – and sample the best that Bristol has to offer along the way, including Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s breathtaking suspension bridge (pictured). This fully-guided “hop-on-hop-off” tour takes 75minutes, and is the ideal way to nip up to Clifton for the Walk and Talk Like Cary Grant workshop and cream tea at the Avon Gorge.
