Looking for Archie Walking Tour – Bristol Walk Fest 2022
Sunday 15 May, 2pm GMT Bristol City Centre
THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the Looking For Archie Walking Tour retracing Cary Grant’s hometown haunts and uncovering Bristol’s hidden cinema history in the places where it actually happened. Participants will be led on a guided tour of Bristol City Centre featuring the locations that inspired Archie Leach’s journey from Horfield to Hollywood, and the spots where the Bristol Post photographed him on his many visits home, after he’d reinvented himself as Cary Grant.
Take a tour of the places which helped to transform Bristol boy Archie Leach into the Hollywood star & style icon Cary Grant. A fun and informative exploration of the city centre locations associated with the Bristol-born film star, both during his boyhood and on his very many return visits home. Meet in Bristol City Centre [location to be confirmed when you book] at 1.45pm – the walk will start promptly at 2pm. The tour will take roughly one and a half hours, covering a distance of about two miles, and will end next to the Cary Grant statue in Millennium Square (at roughly 3.30pm)
The tour will take place come rain or shine, so please bring what footwear and clothing you need to make the tour comfortable! We aim to make the tour as accessible as possible, and there will not be any stairs on the route. This gentle walk is wheelchair accessible, with no big climbs. Your knowledgable guide will shine a new light on Bristol places closely associated with the boy and man.
This walk is part of Bristol WalkFest, the city’s hugely popular, annual walking festival – a month-long celebration of all things walking throughout the city which takes place from 1 to 31 May 2022, promoting a wealth of in-person walking related events and activities, self-guided walking routes and challenges, and much more throughout the national walking month of May.
The walk is free, but “Pay What You Feel” donations are most welcome and will go to support future Cary Comes Home festival activities. Show your love for the festival and our guide by donating here:
