Looking for Archie Walking Tour – Statue Anniversary Edition

Sunday 5 December, 2pm GMT
Bristol City Centre

THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY HAPPENED

The Cary Grant Statue is 20-years young! On 7 December 2001, the statue honouring Bristol’s biggest Hollywood star was unveiled by Cary Grant’s widow Barbara Jaynes. This walking tour retraces Archie’s hometown haunts and uncovers Bristol’s hidden cinema history in the places where it actually happened. Participants will be led on a guided tour of Bristol City Centre featuring the locations that inspired Archie’s journey from Horfield to Hollywood, and the spots where the Bristol Post photographed him on his many visits home, after he’d reinvented himself as Cary Grant.

Festival Director Charlotte Crofts (centre) with Festival Co-ordinator Fern Dunn (left) and BBC Bristol’s James Hanson snapping a #CaryGrantSelfie next to the Cary Grant statue in Millennium Square.

Take a tour of the places which helped to transform Bristol boy Archie Leach into the Hollywood star & style icon Cary Grant. A fun and informative exploration of the city centre locations associated with the Bristol-born film star, both during his boyhood and on his very many return visits home.

Meet in Bristol City Centre [location to be confirmed when you book] at 1.45pm – the walk will start promptly at 2pm. The tour will take roughly one and a half hours, covering a distance of about two miles, and will end next to the Cary Grant statue in Millennium Square (at roughly 3.30pm), where we will raise a glass to Archie and enjoy the Christmas fair.

The tour will take place come rain or shine, so please bring what footwear and clothing you need to make the tour comfortable! We aim to make the tour as accessible as possible, and there will not be any stairs on the route. This gentle walk is wheelchair accessible, with no big climbs. Your knowledgable guide will shine a new light on Bristol places closely associated with the boy and man.

Part of a series of events to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the statue #CaryStatue20 and Bristol City of Film #BristolFilm21. If you take a picture of yourself next to the statue and tag it #CaryGrantSelfie we’ll send you a sticker!

Places are limited so book now to avoid disappointment!

The walk is free, but “Pay What You Feel” donations are most welcome and will go to support future Cary Comes Home festival activities. Show your love for the festival and our guide by donating here:
